Health wise, a spayed female is very less likely to develop mammary or uterine cancer. An neutered male has less prostrate cancer also. They won't roam or fight as much, and dominance and aggression are tempered. The surgery is done on an out patient basis, they come in in the morning , and go home in the afternoon. There are VERY rarely any complications. They are well monitored before, during and after the procedure to ensure their wellbeing. There really is no GOOD reason not to spay or neuter.
